The Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan is a system of premier central government schools in India that are instituted under the aegis of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government Of India to provide uninterrupted education to the wards of transferable Central Government employees.
Initially, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan was registered as a society under the Societies Registration Act (XXI of 1860) with 20 Regimental Schools at places having large concentration of defense personnel. A system was established on 15 December 1963 under the name ‘Central Schools’. Later the name was changed to Kendriya Vidyalaya. All its schools are affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
The Sangathan has three tier management structure with its (I) Headquarters (II) Regional Offices managing a cluster of about 45-50 schools and (III) Kendriya Vidyalayas spread all over the country and abroad, each having their Vidyalaya Management Committees. As of now, it functions with 25 regions, 5 Zonal Institutes and 1254 schools in India and abroad.
A uniform curriculum is followed by all Kendriya Vidyalayas all over India. The instruction is imparted through the media of English and Hindi in these Vidyalayas., the ultimate objective being enabling pupils to achieve a reasonable measure of proficiency in both the languages. Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan has adopted the new pattern of School Education in India i.e. 10+2 pattern. Every Kendriya Vidyalaya is a miniature India in itself and tries to inculcate in its students, feelings of patriotism, brotherhood and national integration.
